From November 15, 2026, the requirement to travel with winter tyres or snow chains on board returns in San Marino and on extra-urban stretches of provincial roads in the Rimini area. The two ordinances set different deadlines.
In San Marino, the provisions approved by the Congress of State on a proposal from the Civil Police commander will remain in force until March 31, 2027. Anti-skid devices must be suitable for driving on snow or ice and compatible with the vehicle’s tyres.
Motorcycles and two-wheeled mopeds are exempt from the requirement, though they will be banned from circulating whenever snow or ice is present on the road surface and during snowfalls.
In the Rimini area, provincial ordinance no. 124 of October 21 sets the deadline instead at April 15, 2027. The rule applies to extra-urban stretches of roads under the Province’s jurisdiction, excluding motorcycles and two-wheeled mopeds.
Among the roads affected are the SP 32 San Marino, the SP 69 Rimini-San Marino, the SP 41 Rimini-Montescudo and the SP 42 Montescudo-Montecolombo, as well as numerous provincial roads in the Valmarecchia and Montefeltro areas, within the territories of San Leo, Novafeltria, Pennabilli and Montecopiolo.
