Diesel excise cut extended to November 7: discount of about 4.9 cents a litre

A new reduction in excise duty on diesel fuel will apply from October 28 to November 7, 2026, offsetting higher VAT revenues linked to rising crude oil prices.

A new reduction in excise duty on diesel fuel takes effect from October 28 to November 7, 2026, amounting to roughly 4.9 cents per litre, VAT included.

The decree published in the Official Gazette sets the rate at 632.90 euros per thousand litres. The measure is designed to offset the higher VAT revenues generated by the rise in international crude oil prices.

The cost of the measure totals 38.7 million euros, drawn from part of the additional VAT revenue collected through September’s periodic payments.

Meanwhile, fuel prices are showing only minimal changes. According to data from the Mimit Observatory, on regular roads self-service petrol has dropped to 2.015 euros per litre, down from 2.017 the previous day. Diesel remains unchanged at 2.261 euros.

On motorways, self-service petrol is stable at 2.041 euros per litre, while diesel has edged up slightly from 2.302 to 2.304 euros.
