The draw against La Fiorita brought San Marino Academy’s Under 22 side its first point of the season and a boost in confidence, as the team now turns its attention to Sunday’s third-round clash with Faetano.
The standout performer in the last outing was Diego Zavoli, who scored his first-ever goal despite a heel problem that had put his participation in doubt. “Going from doubting whether I’d even play to actually scoring was magical,” says the defender, who was also pleased with the team’s overall performance: “We were attentive and focused, and didn’t concede much apart from the goal.”
Zavoli was particularly complimentary of the approach shown by this very young squad in the early part of the season. “We never let ourselves get closed down, and we always played with an open face,” he stressed, giving credit to the coach for quickly instilling a clear playing identity.
Attention now turns to Faetano. “What matters most to us is our own work. The coach gives us principles that always hold true,” Zavoli added. The goal is to continue on the same path, this time trying to match the performance with a result as well.
San Marino Academy will host Faetano on Sunday at the Montecchio stadium, with kick-off at 3pm and free live streaming available on Titani.tv.
