The trial over the Bulgarian affair and the so-called “parallel plan” opens this morning, concerning the blocked sale of Ente Cassa di Faetano’s shares in Banca di San Marino to Bulgarian investor Assen Christov.
Before the Commissario della Legge (Law Commissioner), the parties will formally enter their appearances, requests to join the proceedings as civil parties will be examined, and preliminary issues will be addressed.
The indictment, signed by Law Commissioners Francesco Santoni and Roberto Battaglino, includes five charges covering six offences, contested under various headings. The first charge concerns private corruption and infidelity in administration, in complicity.
According to the prosecution, Andrea Delvecchio, at the time a member of the board of directors of Ente Cassa di Faetano, allegedly received 500,000 euros through the company I.B.C. S.r.l., formally registered to his wife Marina Manduchi but, according to investigators, actually managed by him.
The money is said to have originated from Starcom Holding and passed through a Bulgarian law firm. Investigators believe it was payment in exchange for facilitating the purchase of Banca di San Marino by San Marino Group S.p.A.
