Hearing on San Marino RTV, Fabbri: “We have gone well beyond our targets”

Secretary of State Rossano Fabbri addresses the Council committee on San Marino RTV’s turnaround under new leadership

The Standing Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Immigration, Security and Public Order, and Information met on the afternoon of Wednesday, 28 October 2026, with the agenda including hearings of San Marino RTV’s board chairman, Pasquale Valentini, and its director general, Roberto Sergio.

Below is the full statement by Secretary of State Rossano Fabbri.

Secretary of State Rossano Fabbri: When the director general arrived in the Republic of San Marino, the government, through me, set him two main objectives: balancing the budget and preserving employment levels. We could no longer afford a company that was losing two million euros a year, in a good year, and that was heading down a decidedly unclear path.

These were the two objectives discussed even before Sergio officially took up his post as director. If those were the goals, I believe that today, several months into his tenure, we have gone well beyond achieving them.

Beyond balancing the budget, maintaining full employment and making new hires, I never expected such a virtuous path — not so much in terms of the results achieved, but in the speed with which they were achieved.

I’m thinking, for example, of the complete overhaul of the technological and structural apparatus that keeps RTV running, the renovation of the studios, and another aspect that has been mentioned but never sufficiently emphasised: the well-known channel 550, which gives the Republic of San Marino recognisability through a single, unified image.

I believe this too has been a fundamental achievement in the path we are pursuing — a gradual, growing process that certainly cannot be considered complete and that has other significant challenges still to face.

We face them, however, with the reassurance of having found, in some way, a balance that allows politics to feel confident about the work RTV is doing at this time.

These are the only remarks I wish to leave with the chamber. I remain available, including on the political side, for any further requests for clarification.

Moreover, we have already answered some of these questions through a specific parliamentary question from opposition members, but we are here to clear up any doubts or issues the opposition may raise regarding a path that, I repeat, I consider virtuous and of which, quite honestly, I am also proud.

Having the honour of overseeing various bodies, agencies and offices, having at least one that gives me peace of mind is a source of reassurance for me — with positive effects both for the government and for the country as a whole.
