James Talarico has won the race for the US Senate seat in Texas. According to projections from Decision Desk HQ, he is the first Democrat to win a federal Senate election in the state since 1988.
Talarico, a 37-year-old state representative, defeated Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who had beaten incumbent senator John Cornyn in the Republican primary with the backing of Donald Trump.
Cornyn congratulated Talarico on X, saying he was ready to assist him through the transition.
