Midterms: Democrats take control of Congress, Trump accepts the result

Democrats secure a House majority with 218 seats, according to CNN. Trump concedes but claims his electoral weight would have made the difference.

Democrats have won a majority in both the House and the Senate in the US midterm elections. In the House, they have reached 218 seats, according to CNN.

Donald Trump says he accepts the result. On social media, however, the president touted his own electoral clout, writing: «If my name had been on the ballot, we would have won in a landslide».

In the Senate, James Talarico defeated Republican Ken Paxton in Texas, who had been backed by Trump. It marks the first Democratic win in a Senate race in the state since 1988. In Maine, Troy Jackson flipped the seventh seat of the night from Republican hands, as incumbent Senator Susan Collins conceded defeat.

In Georgia, Jon Ossoff was re-elected. In Michigan, according to projections from Decision Desk HQ, Abdul El-Sayed defeated Republican Mike Rogers.

Barack Obama commented on the vote on X: «Americans sent a clear message: they want politics that brings people together rather than dividing them, and leaders who offer real solutions to the challenges we face».
