Two suspensions for anti-doping violations have been imposed by NADO San Marino on as many players registered in football and futsal competitions organised by the FSGC (Federazione Sammarinese Giuoco Calcio, San Marino Football Federation). The measures concern Massimiliano Bernardi, who at the time was playing futsal for La Fiorita, and Enrico Mantovani of Libertas.
The first case dates back to 27 April, when Bernardi tested positive during a check carried out at the Fiorentino sports facility. According to NADO, the positive result was traced to the unwitting and unintentional use of a medication containing a banned substance, which the player himself had declared before the test. Taking into account the absence of fault or significant negligence, as well as the athlete’s cooperation, a six-month suspension was imposed, running until 17 November 2026. Bernardi will be able to resume training from 17 September.
The case of Enrico Mantovani is different. The player had been selected for a test on 29 April, during the match between Libertas and Juvenes Dogana, but refused to undergo it. According to NADO, despite having been informed of the consequences set out under anti-doping regulations, he reportedly stood by his decision and subsequently became untraceable in the following days. For this conduct, the Results Management Authority imposed a four-year suspension.
The San Marino Football Federation reaffirmed its support for NADO’s work and the need to safeguard both the fairness of competitions and the health of athletes. The FSGC also announced that, starting from the 2026-27 season, anti-doping checks will be stepped up across San Marino’s competitions.
