More than a year after a botched robbery at a jewelry store in downtown Rimini, a new precautionary measure has been issued. Carabinieri and the Mobile Squad this morning carried out an order signed by preliminary investigations judge Raffaella Ceccarelli against a 27-year-old man from Rimini, believed to be one of three men involved in the raid on June 16 of last year.
What ultimately gave him away was DNA recovered from bloodstains left at the scene. During the assault, while the jeweler was being beaten, his wife fought back — even though one of the robbers was armed with a gun — striking him in the back with a sharp pair of tweezers. Her reaction forced the group to flee.
Forensic analysis (RIS) of the tweezers allowed investigators to isolate a genetic profile matching that of the 27-year-old, who has now been placed in pre-trial detention. According to the charges, the young man allegedly took part in the robbery while on probation under social services supervision.
One of the suspected accomplices was arrested just days after the robbery, while the third member of the gang has yet to be identified. The investigation is being led by prosecutor Davide Ercolani.
