San Marino, hotel rooms for university students as two venues sign on

Two accommodation facilities have agreed to offer rooms to university students while a dedicated student residence is being built.

Two accommodation facilities in San Marino have signed letters of intent to make rooms available to students at the University of San Marino. They are the Hotel MH Idesign in Murata and the Residence San Marino Antica Repubblica in Dogana Bassa. The initiative aims to provide a temporary solution to the demand for housing while a dedicated student residence is built.

The process was launched by the State Secretariats for Territory, for Education and for Tourism together with the University, in response to the growing number of students enrolled in bachelor’s and master’s degree programmes.

“The initiative stems from the steady rise in enrolments in degree and master’s courses, and the resulting need to guarantee stable, affordable housing solutions that are well connected to university premises,” the statement reads.

The letters of intent precede the signing of a formal agreement between the facilities, the University and the relevant Secretariats. This marks the start of a pilot scheme that will set out the terms of cooperation for hosting students.

The two facilities were also chosen for their proximity to places of study. “Students housed in participating facilities will also have access to a connection to university premises via the SMUVI bus service, while rental arrangements will be made directly between the facility and the student,” the Secretariats specify.

The hotel-based solution complements the planned student residence provided for under the law on Strategic Territorial Planning. While awaiting its construction, a survey of available accommodation across the territory was carried out in recent days, seeking single or double rooms in hotels, homes or sections of buildings officially designated for this use.

In addition to the two signatory facilities, other venues have already expressed interest. The scheme remains open to property owners willing to make space available for university students.

“Preference is given to rooms located in the Castelli of Città di San Marino, Borgo Maggiore and Serravalle, but properties in any Castello of the Republic may be proposed,” the statement specifies. Interested parties can contact the University of the Republic of San Marino directly, which will provide assistance and guidance on how to take part.
