Tommaso Terenzi is the winner of the Panathlon Club San Marino’s 2026 Student Athlete Award. Ranked first in the world in his speed roller category, he was honoured during celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the San Marino club.
Tied for second place were Aida D’Angeli, who plays women’s football, and Silvia Macina, who competes in track and field. The competition, open to middle school students, drew 16 applications, assessed on the basis of academic and sporting achievements. Six participants presented a grade average above 9.
The aim of the award is to celebrate the ability to balance study with competitive sport. “These young people’s results show that there is no conflict between school and sport, and that there’s no need to choose one over the other, as an old prejudice would have it, out of fear of failing to do both well,” Panathlon noted in a statement.
The panel awarded a special certificate of merit to Martina Mottola, a volleyball player who achieved the best academic average, 9.83. The same recognition went to Davide Muccioli for weightlifting, Kristal Battistini for karate, Ludovica Vannoni for rhythmic gymnastics and Giulia Santolini for bocce.
Certificates of merit were also presented to Luca Gasperoni, active in bocce and rugby, Tommy Para for cycling, Giulia Santini for gymnastics, Stéphane Maroncelli for athletics, Gaia Pezzullo for folk dance, Asia Moroni for skating and A-Jhay De Benedetto for karate.
Presenting the awards were Alessandro Mancini, Secretary for Sport, Christian Forcellini, president of the CONS (San Marino National Olympic Committee), Remo Massari, head of the middle school, and Alessandro Giamberini, deputy director of BSI, who presented the scholarships.
At the close of the ceremony, thanks were extended to Roberta Casali, who has coordinated the competition for more than ten years.
