More than a year after the failed robbery at a jewelry store in downtown Rimini, a new precautionary measure has been issued. Carabinieri and the Mobile Squad this morning carried out an order signed by preliminary investigations judge Raffaella Ceccarelli against a 27-year-old man from Rimini, believed to be one of the three men who took part in the raid on 16 June last year.
What sealed his fate was above all the DNA recovered from blood traces left at the scene. During the assault, while the jeweler was being beaten, his wife fought back — even though one of the robbers was armed with a gun — stabbing him in the back with a pair of pointed tweezers. Her reaction forced the gang to flee.
Forensic analysis carried out by the RIS (Carabinieri’s scientific investigation unit) on the tweezers made it possible to isolate a genetic profile compatible with that of the 27-year-old, who has now been placed in pre-trial detention. According to the charges, the young man allegedly acted while he was already on probation under social services supervision.
One of the suspected accomplices was arrested just days after the robbery, while the third member of the gang has yet to be identified. The investigation is being coordinated by prosecutor Davide Ercolani.
