A severe hemorrhage following a pregnancy termination performed at home led to a call for help from family members and subsequent hospitalization at the Emergency Room in Rimini. A 33-year-old woman is now under investigation for abortion beyond the limits allowed by law. The inquiry also involves her mother, accused of complicity.
According to what the woman told medical staff, the abortion was allegedly induced using a drug purchased in Peru, when the pregnancy was in its fourth month. Complications are said to have put her life at risk.
The hospital’s report triggered the intervention of the State Police (Polizia di Stato). After initial checks by patrol units, the investigation was handed over to the Flying Squad (Squadra Mobile).
Deputy prosecutor Davide Ercolani ordered a search and the seizure of the fetus for forensic medical examination. Forensic police (Scientifica) also took part in the operation.
Investigators will need to determine the exact duration of the pregnancy and reconstruct what happened inside the home, establishing whether the 33-year-old acted alone before seeking help.
