A telephone conversation took place yesterday afternoon between the Pope and Russian President Vladimir Putin. The call focused on the humanitarian situation in the Ukrainian city of Oleshky, in the Kherson region.
The Pontiff called for a truce to allow food and medicine to reach the area and to ensure civilians could leave the city safely.
“During the conversation, the Holy Father expressed deep concern over the grave humanitarian situation in the city of Oleshky, in the Kherson region, calling for a truce to allow the delivery of food and medical aid and the voluntary, safe evacuation of the civilian population,” the Vatican press office reported.
The Pope also reaffirmed the Holy See’s commitment to dialogue and peace, reiterating the Vatican’s readiness to support a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
