San Marino signs EU agreement: public live screening at the Kursaal on Monday

A public event at Città's Kursaal Hall will let citizens follow the Brussels signing ceremony live, with remarks from the Captains Regent and a toast to follow.

On Monday, 19 October, San Marino will sign the Association Agreement with the European Union in Brussels. To allow citizens to follow the ceremony, the Congress of State has organised a public event at the Kursaal Hall in the City, where from midday onwards the proceedings will be broadcast live on a large screen. The event will close with an official address by the Captains Regent and a toast open to all participants.

The signing ceremony is scheduled for 1pm at the Berlaymont building, headquarters of the European Commission, where Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Luca Beccari and European Commissioner Maroš Šefčovič will sign the agreement that defines the new framework of relations between San Marino, Andorra and the European Union. This marks the conclusion of the negotiating process launched in 2014, aimed at achieving greater integration of the Republic into the European internal market.

To mark the occasion, the Congress of State has decided to organise a public gathering for citizens, institutional representatives, political forces, business associations, trade unions, civic groups and young people.

“To allow the entire community to share in this fundamental moment, the Congress of State is promoting a collective gathering open to everyone,” the statement reads.

The Kursaal Hall will open at midday, while the live streaming broadcast will begin on the large screen at 12.45pm, via the European Commission’s audiovisual platform and San Marino RTV. From 1pm, viewers will be able to follow the ceremony in Brussels, including remarks by Beccari and Šefčovič, the signing of the agreement and the press conference that follows.

This will be followed by the official address of Their Excellencies the Captains Regent, broadcast live from Palazzo Pubblico. At 1.30pm, the programme includes a celebratory toast accompanied by a small informal buffet, open to all those present.

The initiative, promoted by the Congress of State, will thus allow the signing of the agreement and the institutional remarks scheduled for the day to be followed from San Marino as well.
