The breakthrough in the investigation into the death of a 34-year-old Albanian man, found lifeless on Wednesday evening in the car park of the Vision Club near the border with San Marino, could come from the footage of security cameras at a nearby bar.
The first images examined by the Carabinieri appear to support the theory of a fall. The man reportedly arrived by car, spent a few minutes inside the vehicle, and once he got out, fell to the ground and never got back up.
The 34-year-old is believed to have lain on the ground for more than an hour before anyone noticed him. However, the footage will need to be analysed more closely to reconstruct exactly what happened.
The key question is what caused the fall. Investigators are considering several possibilities, from a sudden illness to a loss of balance, without ruling out the possibility of an assault.
Meanwhile, the autopsy ordered by the Rimini Public Prosecutor’s Office has been carried out, though the results are not yet available. The examination is expected to shed light on the cause of death and on the injuries found on the body.
The body was discovered on Wednesday at around 11:30 pm by a passer-by, who alerted a San Marino police patrol near the Gualdicciolo border crossing. Attempts to save him proved futile.
The victim, who had recently arrived in Italy intending to work as a bricklayer, is now at the centre of investigations by the Carabinieri of Rimini and Novafeltria, who are working to reconstruct his final movements and determine why he was in the car park.
