Misano: Bezzecchi tops Marquez as Grand Prix heats up

Marco Bezzecchi edges Marc Marquez on day one of the San Marino and Rimini Riviera Grand Prix, as Misano buzzes with racing and entertainment.

Marco Bezzecchi finished ahead of Marc Marquez on the opening day of the Red Bull Grand Prix of San Marino and the Rimini Riviera. At the Misano World Circuit, the MotoGP weekend got underway under sunny skies, with a lively crowd and immediately compelling lap times.

In the morning free practice session, Marquez had held the edge over Bezzecchi by just six hundredths of a second. In the afternoon, however, the rider from nearby Rimini, racing for Aprilia Racing, turned the tables, clocking a time of 1:30.144 to finish ahead of the Spaniard. Alex Marquez rounded out the top three.

In Moto2, Senna Agius stole the spotlight, setting a new track record of 1:34.142 ahead of Manuel Gonzalez and David Alonso. In Moto3, the fastest time went to David Almansa, followed by Joel Kelso and Maximo Quiles.

On Saturday, the excitement will continue off the track as well. Starting at 4pm, the Fan Zone will host a DJ set, while from 5pm several Italian riders — including Bagnaia, Bezzecchi, Bastianini, Marini, Di Giannantonio and Morbidelli — will take to the stage.

From 6pm, the spotlight shifts to the Nameless Festival, featuring Steve Angello, Crookers, EDMMARO and Fenoaltea. The Riders’ Land Experience also continues, with additional events taking place in Cattolica as part of Ride Week.
