A dj booth inside the cabin, two San Marino-based djs, and the cable car carrying on its usual back-and-forth journey between Borgo Maggiore and the historic centre. For one evening, one of San Marino’s most iconic landmarks will take on a whole new identity, becoming a small club on the move, with music accompanying passengers throughout the ride.
The date to mark is Sunday, September 6, from 7:30pm to 10pm, when the cable car will host the debut of “Cable Club,” a dj set staged directly inside the cabin. This isn’t a party held at the departure or arrival station: the music will play while the cable car is actually moving.
Behind the decks will be Martin Minotti and Pierluigi Berardi, both from San Marino and both well known on the local and Riviera music scene. Minotti has also performed at venues such as Cocoricò and Villa delle Rose, while Berardi has been active in the local music circuit for years.
The idea is to reimagine, in a completely different way, the link between Borgo Maggiore and the Unesco-listed historic centre. During the ride, passengers will find themselves immersed in a dj set suspended above Monte Titano, with a view stretching from the Republic all the way to the Romagna coastline.
The initiative has been organised by the Consorzio Terra di San Marino, which has included Cable Club in its “Dal Turista al Contadino” programme. The artistic concept, meanwhile, stems from a collaboration with Dragon Valley and is part of the “Rinascita Culturale” (Cultural Rebirth) project. The artistic and technical concept was developed by Gian Luca Battazza, known as Batta, founder of Dragon Valley.
It’s precisely the technical side that makes the experiment so unusual. Fitting a dj booth inside a cable car and getting the set to work while the cabin is in motion required a custom-built solution designed to transform the cabin into a musical space without moving the event to ground level.
The project also involved the Secretariat of State for relations with AASS and the Secretariat of State for Territory, as part of a wider effort to strengthen the connection between Borgo Maggiore and the historic centre through unconventional initiatives.
The day will kick off at 5:30pm with an inaugural ride, while the actual dj set will start at 7:30pm and run until 10pm.
There will be no extra tickets or separate admission. To ride Cable Club, all you’ll need is a standard cable car ticket. On paper, it’s a ride like any other — only this time, Martin Minotti and Pierluigi Berardi will be on the decks as the cabin rises and descends from Monte Titano.
