How can a democracy retain its rules and institutions while gradually losing its substance? That is the question at the heart of “Postdemocracy: genealogy and critique of a concept,” an event organized by RETE for Friday, October 30 at 9 p.m.
The meeting, open to the public, will be held at the movement’s headquarters, in via Trasmundo da Fano 4 in Murata. It is the second evening in the political discussion series.
Leading the discussion will be Alessandro Simoncini, professor of political philosophy at the University for Foreigners of Perugia (Università per Stranieri di Perugia) and a resident of San Marino.
The professor will trace the origins of the concept of postdemocracy and its use in contemporary debate, examining the historical developments and political dynamics behind the crisis of Western democracies.
The evening will leave ample room for questions and contributions from the audience, to discuss the forms democracy has taken today.
