San Marino Baseball falls again to Parma and now finds itself with its back against the wall in the Italian Baseball Series. In game 4, the Titani, ahead 4-1 after four innings, were overtaken by a Parma comeback, as the visitors prevailed 10-7 to move the series to 3-1. Parma is now just one win away from the Scudetto.
San Marino started well, building a lead as early as the second inning. Guevara’s double and Martini’s single produced the first run, while an error on Di Fabio’s bunt made it 2-0. Parma cut the gap in the third with Gonzalez, but the home side answered in the fourth: Wong hit a two-run home run to make it 4-1.
The game changed completely in the fifth inning. With Angioi and Geraldo on base, Robel Garcia crushed a three-run homer to level the score at 4-4. Shortly after, starter Francisco Sanchez was ejected for arguing a call. The decisive moment, however, came in the seventh inning, when Parma capitalized on San Marino’s struggles on the mound to score four runs, breaking away to an 8-4 lead.
The visitors extended their lead further in the ninth, reaching 10-4. San Marino tried to fight back in their final at-bat: Magnani and Lino drove in runs, and Pieternella sent the ball over the fence with a two-run homer, but the comeback fell short, with the final score settling at 10-7.
For San Marino, home runs from Wong and Pieternella were not enough. The winning pitcher was Rivera, while the loss went to Mendez. Parma now leads 3-1 in the Italian Baseball Series and will have its first chance on Wednesday to close out the series and claim the Scudetto.
