The Rimini Prosecutor’s Office has requested the dismissal of the investigation into the case of a 28-year-old man from Rimini who, in August 2024, lost a testicle after arriving at the emergency room of Infermi Hospital with severe groin pain.
Forensic medical assessments revealed shortcomings in the triage process: the two nurses under investigation are accused of failing to record all vital signs and of assigning a green code instead of the more urgent orange code. However, experts ruled out any causal link between that delay and the subsequent removal of the testicle, concluding that the tissue necrosis was already irreversible by the time the patient reached the hospital. The doctor on duty was also cleared of any responsibility, as his actions were found to comply with clinical guidelines.
The injured party, who was granted recognition of a workplace injury by Italy’s national insurance institute (INAIL) with a 10% disability rating, disagrees with the prosecutors’ conclusions. Through his lawyer, he has filed a formal objection to the dismissal request, calling for further investigation into how the case was handled and the timeline of his hospital admission. It will now be up to the preliminary investigations judge to decide whether to close the case for good or order additional inquiries.
