Foreign Affairs Secretary of State Luca Beccari has received the “Economy, Health and Society” excellence award from Rome’s Università degli Studi Link. The university’s scientific committee and academic senate presented the honour in recognition of his work on active neutrality and his contribution to the final stages of the association agreement with the European Union.
The ceremony, held on 4 November, was attended by rector Carlo Alberto Giusti, the President of the Council of State Luigi Maruotti, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Edmondo Cirielli, and ambassador Giampiero Massolo. Discussions focused on relations between Italy and San Marino and the role of small states within international organisations.
In his address, Beccari reviewed San Marino’s foreign policy choices in recent years, explaining how neutrality and participation in multilateral forums can help a small state safeguard its interests while upholding international law. The Secretary also recalled the signing of the association agreement and its significance for the Republic’s future economic, political and social development.
On the matter of relations with Italy, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation between their respective diplomatic services.
