Car break-in spree in Miramare: four vehicles targeted, man arrested by police

Four cars damaged and several items stolen from inside them within just a few metres of each other. The raid was interrupted by State Police on the evening of Monday, 31 August, in Miramare, where an Italian man was arrested on charges of aggravated theft, criminal damage, resistance and insulting a public official. It was around 9:25 pm when a patrol from the Umbria-Marche Crime Prevention Unit, deployed as part of summer reinforcements in Rimini, heard loud noises and caught a man kicking a blue Fiat Panda and trying to force it open. As soon as he spotted the officers, the suspect fled on a bicycle, dropping a backpack and other goods that investigations later confirmed had come from the thefts. The chase continued towards the beach area, where officers managed to catch up with him: the man broke free once and tried to run again, but was stopped a few metres further on and restrained after resisting arrest. Subsequent investigations helped reconstruct what had happened shortly before: along the pavement, four cars parked in a row showed similar damage, concentrated on the side less exposed to the road. According to police, the man had broken the windows to rummage through the vehicles and take whatever he could find, making off with portable jump starters, keys, a spare tyre and a small fire extinguisher. Following his arrest, he was taken to police headquarters and held in custody pending a validation hearing. The presumption of innocence remains in effect until a final verdict is reached.
