The issue of Palestine is once again at the center of political debate in San Marino. During a joint session of the council committees, Foreign Secretary Luca Beccari retraced the path followed by the Republic, recalling that both the recognition of the Palestinian state and the measures taken to support its population were proposed, discussed and unanimously approved by the Grand and General Council (Consiglio Grande e Generale).
Responding to committee member Matteo Zeppa, Beccari pointed out that the issue has also become a battleground for political and media clashes, with attacks directed personally at him and, in some cases, linked to San Marino’s European integration process.
The secretary broadened his remarks beyond the Palestinian question itself, warning against aggressive rhetoric and a growing culture of hatred, which he described as alien to the Republic’s history and identity. Despite having gone through periods of insularity and mistrust, San Marino has always made solidarity and openness one of its strengths on the international stage.
He therefore called on those who do not identify with this climate to openly distance themselves from it. For Beccari, the time has come to defend the values of hospitality and solidarity that have long defined San Marino’s history.
