An extraordinary performance from Daniele Mazza at the CMAS Indoor International Freediving Competition, an international underwater sports event held in Chișinău, Moldova. The Sammarinese athlete, accompanied by coach Marco Vivarelli, claimed three gold medals, crowning his participation with two new world records, both achieved by improving on marks he himself had set at the 2024 World Championships in Lignano.
The first world record came in the Dynamic Apnea with fins (DYN-BP), class 1 (FFS1) of the Parasport category. Mazza reached a distance of 142 metres, decisively surpassing the previous record of 115 metres. The result earned him first place in the discipline as well as further recognition for the new record.
The second record was set in Static Apnea (STA), class 4 (FFS4) of the Parasport category. In this event Mazza stopped the clock at 6 minutes and 3 seconds, improving by a full minute on the previous world record set in Lignano in 2024. Here too, alongside the gold medal for winning the event, came recognition for the new world record.
Rounding off a memorable day was victory in the Dynamic Apnea without fins (DNF), class 2 (FFS2). Mazza covered 75 metres, improving his previous best by ten metres and securing his third gold medal of the competition.
“As far as I’m concerned, this is the culmination of a great deal of commitment, because achieving these goals requires extensive training both outside and inside the pool. I think it’s also a source of great pride for San Marino to see its flag flying at the top of the world,” commented Daniele Mazza.
A haul of outstanding prestige, the fruit of the preparation carried out ahead of the event together with coach Marco Vivarelli, a key figure in the build-up to the competition and in achieving these important results.
