The Grand and General Council (Consiglio Grande e Generale) remembers Antonio Carattoni, former Captain Regent and father of Councillor Enrico Carattoni. News of his passing opened Thursday afternoon’s session on 5 November, with a message of condolence from the Captains Regent.

Carattoni had been a member of the Council from 1978 to 1988 and from 1993 to 1998. From 1983 to 1986 he served as Minister of Industry and Crafts. Alongside his institutional career, he was also active as a writer, devoting himself to the history and the civil and political affairs of San Marino.

The Captains Regent wished to recall “not only his significant institutional career and his deep attachment to the principles and values of our Republic, but also his intellectual depth, his broad culture and the valuable contribution he made, through his work as a writer, to the knowledge and reflection on the history and the civil and political affairs of San Marino.”

The message also highlighted his bond with the country, nurtured both through public office and cultural work: “His commitment, expressed both in the exercise of public responsibilities and through his cultural activity, bears witness to a profound bond with our country and its institutions, leaving behind a legacy of thought and testimony that will continue to enrich the collective memory of our community.”
