Kimi Antonelli continues his winning streak, further extending his lead in the Formula 1 World Championship. The 20-year-old from Bologna claimed victory at the Spanish Grand Prix with Mercedes, finishing ahead of Max Verstappen and Lando Norris.
It was anything but an easy race for Antonelli, who had to manage his tyres carefully and push hard until the very end on the hard compound. The Mercedes driver himself admitted after crossing the finish line that Norris deserved the win, having been penalised by the timing of the Virtual Safety Car while he was leading the race.
Charles Leclerc narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth for Ferrari, while George Russell brought the second Mercedes home in fifth place. It was a Sunday to forget for Lewis Hamilton, who was forced to retire after just a few laps due to a brake problem.
The result allows Antonelli to further consolidate his lead in the standings: 292 points, 81 ahead of Russell, who sits second with 211. Hamilton, meanwhile, remains stuck on 191. Despite the comfortable margin, the young Italian is refusing to do the maths, insisting his goal remains to take it one race at a time without thinking about the championship table.
