San Marino’s Wonderbay hosts padel world amateur championships with athletes from eight countries

The Wonderbay sports centre welcomes the second edition of the CSIT World Amateur Padel Championships, bringing together players from four continents.

International amateur padel returns to San Marino. Today and tomorrow, 24 and 25 October, the Wonderbay sports centre is hosting the second edition of the CSIT World Amateur Padel Championships, with players coming from eight countries across four continents.

After its 2024 debut, the event returns to Mount Titano with participation from Italy, San Marino, Spain, France, Brazil, Mexico, Senegal and China. Alongside the athletes will be coaches, companions and supporters, for two days dedicated to competition and to bringing together sporting communities of different nationalities.

The championship is open to amateur players, who will have the chance to compete against international opponents through a format designed to account for different levels of preparation.

There are four categories: men’s doubles, women’s doubles, mixed doubles and men’s veterans doubles (over 40). Matches will be divided into Gold and Silver levels, to ensure fair contests between participants of similar experience and technical ability.

For CSIT, the International Workers and Amateurs in Sports Confederation, the event is also an opportunity to foster relationships between athletes from different countries and to showcase the host territory.

Organisers have also highlighted this spirit through a series of gifts for participants. Among them are PopRSM, artisanal sweet popcorn in white and light blue, inspired by the colours of the Sammarinese flag and created especially for the occasion by Healthy Chef Jenny Moretti, founder of Buonissimo per Natura.

The return of the amateur world championships also represents an opportunity for sports tourism in San Marino, as players and companions, besides taking part in the competitions, will be able to explore the Republic’s territory.

Several partners are involved in organising the tournament and its related activities. Among the collaborations is one with Luca Romani Coach and the Play & Connect International Championship, a project dedicated to developing international relationships within the world of padel.

This partnership has also brought to Wonderbay the involvement of Vivilo, a technology startup from Cesena, which will offer participants a facial-recognition-based service. By uploading a selfie, players will be able to find photos and videos of their participation in the tournament, as well as receive a personalised highlight reel.

Other collaborations include QOIO, Sport Nomadz and QUICKSAND, which are contributing to the event with technical accessories, sports travel opportunities, and prizes for the players who reach the podium respectively.

The event is sponsored by the Secretariat of State for Sport and organised by San Marino Welcome and Trends, in collaboration with CSIT and with the involvement of AICS.

Technical direction is entrusted to San Marino’s own Stefano Pazzini, alongside CSIT representatives Harald Burghardt, president of the Tennis and Padel Technical Commission, and Mauro Marino, secretary of the CSIT Technical Commission for Padel. Carlo Schiavone is also taking part in sporting supervision.

Matches will continue until Sunday, 25 October, when titles in the various categories will be awarded at Wonderbay, bringing to a close the second edition of the amateur world championship hosted by the Republic of San Marino.
