Stockholm and Rimini will once again be connected by a direct flight after 22 years without one. Ryanair will relaunch the route starting 2 June 2027, restoring to Federico Fellini Airport a connection with one of the markets that helped fuel the Riviera’s tourism boom.
In the 1960s and 1970s, the beaches of Romagna were among the most beloved Italian destinations for visitors from northern Europe. Swedes, Norwegians, Danes and Finns flocked there for seaside holidays, nightlife and entertainment, as well as for family getaways. Recalling that era, in the pages of Resto del Carlino, is Ennio Sanese, owner of the Carnaby nightclub, who spent many years welcoming Scandinavian tourists.
Today the numbers tell a different story. Between January and August 2026, Rimini recorded 5,952 arrivals of Swedish tourists, many of whom reached the coast via Bologna Airport. The return of the direct route could make travel easier and encourage new visits, with potential benefits also for the hinterland and San Marino.
The connection with the Swedish capital is part of Ryanair’s expansion plan at Fellini Airport. From 2027, the Rimini airport will become an operational base for the Irish carrier: the announced programme includes 17 routes in total, five of them new, and an investment of 200 million dollars.
