No more gatherings at the previously announced squares. The Movimento 17 Ottobre (October 17 Movement) is changing its strategy ahead of the demonstrations planned for tomorrow, Saturday 24 October, choosing not to disclose the meeting points in advance.
The decision was announced through the movement’s social media channels, which last weekend brought young people and teenagers onto the streets in several cities across northern Italy.
The gatherings initially planned in Piazza del Duomo in Milan and Piazza del Nettuno in Bologna have therefore been scrapped, along with the other previously publicized events.
The organizers’ aim is to prevent law enforcement from learning the meeting points in advance and setting up possible checks.
On the movement’s social channels, there is talk of wanting to avoid any “leak” and of not wanting to find a “cordon already in place.”
The mobilizations therefore remain planned for Saturday, but in a different format from what was initially announced. It remains to be seen where participants will gather and how the new instructions will be communicated.
