They were meant to serve as the foundation for a denture, but instead six teeth were first damaged and then extracted. The case went before the Rimini court, which ordered the dentist to pay the patient more than €21,000 in compensation, plus interest.
According to expert testimony gathered during the trial, teeth in the lower arch were subjected to excessively aggressive filing during treatment. After problems arose with the denture, the patient underwent extractions, bone regeneration and implants.
The judge concluded that the six teeth could have been saved had the preparation been carried out correctly. The damages were also assessed on the basis of an 8% permanent disability rating, taking into account both the physical and psychological consequences.
However, there was no full refund of the fees paid to the professional, since the treatment performed on the upper arch was found to have been carried out correctly.
