A grim discovery on the morning of Friday, 7 August on the beach in the southern part of Rimini. Shortly before 9 a.m., near Bagno 131, staff at the beach club noticed the lifeless body of a man that had surfaced in the water and immediately raised the alarm.
118 emergency medical service personnel responded to the scene, but the doctor could only confirm the man’s death. Officers from the Harbour Master’s Office – Coast Guard (Capitaneria di Porto – Guardia Costiera) then arrived and launched an investigation.
According to initial information, the victim is believed to be a man of around 70 years of age. At the time of the inspection, the body carried no documents or other items that could help establish his identity, and checks are now under way to determine who he was.
Among the theories being examined by investigators is that the man may have suffered a sudden illness while swimming in the early morning, at a time of day when the beach is still largely deserted and lifeguard services have not yet begun.
The body has been taken to the morgue, where further examinations ordered by the relevant authorities will continue in an effort to clarify the circumstances of his death and identify the victim.
