Starting August 17, it will also be possible to pay with American Express cards in the Republic of San Marino at merchants affiliated with Klirway S.p.A., the Sammarinese electronic money institution. The agreement, which covers Consumer, Business and Corporate cards, expands the range of payment options available on the Titano and aims to strengthen the appeal of the local commercial system to international customers.
Under the agreement, Klirway will act as American Express’s acquiring partner for San Marino, marking a new step in the evolution of the country’s payment services. Merchants will be able to manage all transactions through 301pay, the platform developed by Klirway, benefiting from a single infrastructure to monitor and reconcile transactions.
The initiative comes at a time when San Marino continues to see strong growth in tourist flows. In 2025, the Republic welcomed more than 2.1 million visitors, confirming its status as an increasingly popular international destination. For local businesses, the ability to accept American Express means being able to reach customers from all over the world, offering a more complete payment service.
Before the service goes live, merchants within the Klirway network wishing to enable American Express card acceptance can contact their representatives at Banca Agricola Commerciale, Banca di San Marino and Cassa di Risparmio della Repubblica di San Marino.
