American Express is once again available in San Marino. Starting today, the circuit’s cards — including the Consumer, Business and Corporate versions — can be used at San Marino businesses that are part of the Klirway network.
The news was reported by San Marino RTV, which gathered comments from Federico Zambelli Hosmer, managing director of Klirway S.p.A. The return of the circuit aims to close a gap in the Titano’s payment system and, above all, to expand opportunities for merchants and operators to reach international customers.
American Express can count on a customer base of over 170 million people worldwide, including travelers and users with significant spending power — a particularly relevant factor for a destination with such a strong tourism vocation as San Marino.
“This is a path we undertook to close this important gap,” Zambelli Hosmer explained to San Marino RTV, noting that the result was achieved through the restoration of ties with American Express, the work of the Klirway team, and dialogue with local regulators.
For merchants participating in the circuit, this opens up the possibility of accepting American Express payments once again, broadening their potential customer base and offering an additional service to foreign visitors as well.
