Cold snap heading for Romagna and San Marino, possible snow in the Apennines

Temperatures set to drop sharply from Sunday, November 1st, with winds and rain expected to shift conditions toward an early winter feel.

Cold weather is on its way to Romagna and San Marino, with a drop in temperatures that will become more pronounced from Sunday, November 1st. Over the course of next week, values could fall between 4 and 7 degrees below seasonal averages.

Driving the change will be the shift of the anticyclone toward the British Isles and the North Sea, leaving room for cold currents from the northeast and from Eastern Europe.

The first signs are expected as early as Thursday and Friday: more clouds, falling temperatures and strengthening northeasterly winds, especially along the coast. In San Marino, low clouds could form the characteristic “cap” around Mount Titano.

From Sunday, daytime highs — initially between 17 and 19 degrees — could drop by 3 to 4 degrees, before falling further still. Inland areas and higher ground are set for near-wintry conditions.

How much rain will fall remains to be seen. The possible formation of a low-pressure system over the Ionian Sea could favour precipitation, partly due to the clash between eastern currents and the Apennine range.

If the cold proves strong enough, the season’s first snowfall could reach the hills of Romagna. The intensity of the temperature drop and the distribution of rainfall remain to be confirmed with upcoming forecast updates.
