Panathlon Club San Marino celebrated sixty years of activity, which began on 30 March 1966 at the Hotel Jolì in the City. The anniversary was marked by a public audience granted by the Captains Regent, the presentation of a book on the club’s history, and a special postal cancellation bearing the date of the event.
The celebrations were attended by Panathlon International world president Giorgio Chinellato, vice-president Luigi Innocenzi, and members of the Board of Auditors Andrea Sbardellati and Marino Albani.
During the event, discussion turned to the rise in cases of youth isolation, including in relation to Hikikomori syndrome, as well as to the values promoted by the club: sporting ethics, inclusion and young people’s right to experience sport as enjoyment.
Roberto Chiesa introduced the conference on the history of Panathlon San Marino, prepared by president Muccioli, who traced the club’s milestones from its founding to the present day. Part of the celebrations was dedicated to Giovanni Righi and Alvaro Selva, founding members who are still with us, who were each presented with a commemorative plaque.
Several awards were given in recognition of contributions to the life of the club. Honours went to Roberta Casali, the club’s first female member, Marino Albani and Leo Achilli for promoting the club abroad, and former presidents Gian Battista Silvagni and Leo Achilli.
Among the guests from the world of sport were Manuel Poggiali and Alessandra Perilli. Representing the institutions were Secretary of State for Education Teodoro Lonfernini, Secretary for Sport Alessandro Mancini, and Olympic Committee president Christin Forcellini.
There was also space for the Student Athlete award, given to middle and high school students who excel both academically and in sport.
Thanks were extended to the management of BSI, represented by Pierluigi Rossetti and Alessandro Garminiani, for their support of the initiative and their closeness to Panathlon’s values.
Recognition was also given for collaboration with schools to deputy headmistress of the high school Mara Casali and to the head of the middle school, Remo Massari.
Also honoured were Alan Gasperoni, former president of the Junior Club, Giorgio Betti for his promotional work, and Daniele Cesaretti, who has represented the club for years in the Lugo-San Marino cycling race.
