Faetano, landslide repair work begins: road closed from November 3

Work has started on the long-standing landslide on Strada Quinta Gualdaria, with the road fully closed to traffic from November 3 to December 18.

Work has begun on repairing the landslide on Strada Quinta Gualdaria in Faetano, an issue that has persisted since 2018. The construction site in the Bigandola area started on Monday, October 26, and is expected to be completed by April 2027, with the area made safe and fully accessible again.

For those travelling along the road, the first change is already in effect: a single alternating lane regulated by traffic lights. From November 3 to December 18, however, the stretch will be completely closed to vehicles. Traffic will need to follow the alternative routes indicated by temporary signage.

The timeline, technical solutions and traffic management plans were presented on Tuesday evening at the Casa del Castello by the Secretary of State for Territory, Matteo Ciacci, Captain of the Castello Giorgio Moroni, and department director Catia Cesarini, who answered questions from residents.

To ease connections towards Montegiardino, the two traffic light systems along the route will be removed. It was also announced that a general practitioner will be available in Faetano’s town centre from Monday to Friday, in order to reduce travel needs and difficulties, especially for the most vulnerable residents.

During the meeting, updates were also given on other projects in the Castello: reinforcement of the Marano riverbank with large boulders and restoration of the fence, work on the embankment and completion of the pavement on Via Campo del Fiume, and new ossuaries at the cemetery.

There was also discussion of assigning the former nursery school building to the Giunta, following an inspection by the Civil Protection, as well as the premises of the former “casa del dottore,” which will be used for community activities. The programme also includes resurfacing work on several road sections, to continue in the coming years, and the completion of the beach volleyball court.
