San Marino’s Rotary Club remembers Mariella Mularoni: “The strength of kindness”

Rotary Club San Marino dedicated an evening to the memory of Mariella Mularoni, with testimonies from family, friends and fellow members on her teaching career, public service and personal relationships.

On Monday evening, Rotary Club San Marino dedicated a meeting to the memory of Mariella Mularoni, who passed away on 29 May. Family members, friends and fellow club members shared recollections of her life, touching on her career in teaching, her institutional commitment and her personal relationships.

The commemoration, held at the end of the club’s dinner meeting, was opened by club president Giulia Magnani. Contributions followed from board member Aida Maria Adele Selva, her daughters Giulia and Beatrice Berti, her friend Giulio Caramaschi and her brother-in-law Marino Albani.

“Throughout the evening, a portrait emerged of a woman capable of taking on ever greater responsibilities without ever losing the most authentic traits of her character: sobriety, kindness, a capacity for listening and a deep attentiveness to others,” reads the Rotary Club’s statement.

The tributes traced the various stages of her journey — from teaching English to her involvement with the club, and on to her political and institutional roles. Particular attention was given to her election as Captain Regent in 2019, recalled as a source of great pride for the club.

“From teaching English — which she approached with passion and sensitivity toward generations of students — to her membership in Rotary; from her political engagement to the Supreme Magistracy of the Republic and her leadership of the Secretariat of State for Health, Mariella approached every role with balance, determination and a genuine spirit of service.”

Speakers also recalled her final public role as Secretary of State for Health, and the attention she dedicated to prevention, to the most vulnerable members of society and to the needs of the community.

“Particularly moving was the recollection of the courage and dignity with which she faced her illness, continuing — even in the most difficult moments — to work, to smile and to devote herself to her community,” the club noted. “An example of quiet strength and an extraordinary sense of duty, which lives on today through the dedication of the 2026 Pink October initiatives to her memory.”

The evening also recalled the state funeral held in her honour by the Republic of San Marino. The gathering closed with a slideshow of photographs accompanied by brief reflections on the different chapters of her life, from her years in the classroom to her time in public institutions.

“For Rotary Club San Marino, remembering Mariella also means reaffirming the truest meaning of the Rotarian ideal of service above self — an ideal she embodied in the classroom, within the club, in public institutions and in everyday life.”
