Clashes in Milan, an 11-year-old among those identified. Piantedosi: “No evidence they were manipulated”

After weekend unrest in Milan, authorities confirm a child was among those identified, as the government weighs new security measures.

The youngest among those identified following the clashes and vandalism that shook Milan last weekend is just 11 years old. The revelation has further intensified scrutiny of the unrest and the measures needed to prevent further incidents.

The situation was discussed during a meeting of the committee for public order and security held at the prefecture, also in light of the new security decree. Among the measures announced is the deployment of paratroopers from the Folgore brigade.

Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi clarified that, at this stage, there is no evidence to suggest those involved in the unrest were pushed or manipulated by others: “There is no evidence that they were manipulated.”

Milan’s mayor, Giuseppe Sala, is calling for a firm response, naming “control and crackdown” as priorities to counter violence and vandalism.

Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini has also taken a hard line, warning: “The message is that nothing will go unpunished.”
