A case of Dengue imported from abroad has been confirmed in Rimini. The report reached the Romagna Local Health Authority (Ausl Romagna) on 15 September, which then notified the municipality, triggering the standard response procedures. The mayor subsequently signed an emergency ordinance for extraordinary pest control measures.
The operations, entrusted to Anthea, will cover the areas around via Turchetta and via Togliatti, within roughly a hundred metres of the home linked to the confirmed case.
Residents are asked to allow access to the workers carrying out the treatments, to eliminate any standing water, and to follow guidance for removing potential mosquito breeding sites. The use of repellents and window screens is also recommended to reduce the risk of bites.
Dengue is a viral disease transmitted through the bite of infected mosquitoes, including the tiger mosquito, and is not spread directly from person to person. In Europe, cases are mostly imported by people who have travelled to countries where the virus is circulating.
The infection can be asymptomatic. When symptoms do occur, they may include fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, nausea and skin rashes. Anyone experiencing suspicious symptoms after returning from areas where Dengue is present is advised to consult their doctor.
