Not just the view: why La Terrazza has become a culinary destination

In the heart of San Marino's historic centre, a restaurant once known for its panorama is now building a reputation for what happens on the plate.

Some restaurants tell their story starting from the kitchen; others are inevitably remembered first for the place where they stand. La Terrazza di San Marino has always belonged to the second category: its position, in the heart of the historic centre, offers a view that sweeps across the hills all the way to the Adriatic.

For a long time, that panorama was its most immediate signature. Today, however, La Terrazza is working to make the view the beginning of the experience rather than its only reason to visit.

The shift is visible in the kitchen led by Saverio Guida, in the young brigade working alongside him, in the seasonality of the menu and in the care taken to make the most of every ingredient. It can be felt in the dining room, where the service accompanies guests without weighing down the evening. And it comes through in the ambition to give the restaurant a more precise, contemporary and recognisable voice.

A dinner here often begins well before the first course. It starts with the arrival in the historic centre, with the silhouette of the towers, with the light changing over the valleys. Then the table takes over: fresh pasta, seasonal produce, careful cooking, wine, and the story told by the dining room staff.

It is this dialogue between place and kitchen that is shaping La Terrazza’s new identity. The panorama isn’t set aside — that would be both impossible and a mistake — but it stops being an alibi. The challenge is to ensure that, by the end of the meal, guests remember a flavour with the same intensity as what they saw through the window.

The attention received from Gambero Rosso in March 2026 should also be read in this light. The article dedicated to the restaurant didn’t stop at the spectacular view, but described the young team, Saverio Guida’s work and a kitchen philosophy that also aims to reduce food waste.

It marks a significant shift: La Terrazza remains one of the most scenic places to dine in San Marino, but today it wants to be chosen for what arrives on the plate and for how that story is told.

A culinary destination, then, before it is a panoramic terrace. With an advantage few other restaurants can claim: once the kitchen has finished speaking, San Marino keeps talking beyond the windows.

The view brings you here. The kitchen has to make you want to come back.
