The competitive commitments of Team San Marino at the XX Mediterranean Games in Taranto have come to a close. The last blue-and-white athlete to take to the field was Nicole Conti, who competed in the show jumping event aboard Jappeloup.
In the first round, the Sammarinese rider completed a nearly flawless course, incurring just four penalty points at the water jump. The result allowed her to secure 22nd place and clear the cut to advance to the second round.
In the evening session, Conti and Jappeloup — competing in their first international outing together — confirmed their strong form, finishing the two-day competition with 25 total penalty points and a final 22nd-place finish out of 46 combinations.
For Nicole Conti, however, her time in Taranto is not yet over. Alongside sprinter Alessandro Gasperoni, she will serve as San Marino’s flag-bearer at the closing ceremony, scheduled for tomorrow evening at the Eraldo Iacovone Stadium.
Meanwhile, the journey toward the next Mediterranean event has already begun. The fourth edition of the Mediterranean Beach Games, set to take place in Portimão-Lagoa in 2027, was presented at the Main Press Center in Taranto, marking the event’s move to Portugal.
The Algarve edition will feature 14 disciplines, with 800-900 athletes expected from 26 countries. Competitions will be hosted in Praia da Rocha and Praia Grande. The symbolic handover between Taranto and Portugal will be built around the theme of water, under the concept “Carried by Light, United by Water.”
