Taranto 2026: Gasperoni clocks season’s best in the 200m, Conti advances in show jumping

On the final day of competition at the Mediterranean Games, San Marino's athletes shone in athletics and equestrian sport.

The final day of competition for the San Marino Team at the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games saw the blue-and-white delegation in action in athletics and equestrian sport. Alessandra Gasparelli and Alessandro Gasperoni took to the track in the 200 metres, while in show jumping Nicole Conti, riding Jappeloup, cleared the first round of the individual final.

In the women’s 200 metres, Alessandra Gasparelli finished fifth in her heat with a time of 24.18 seconds. The San Marino sprinter, whose personal best stands at 23.65 and season’s best at 23.87, ended qualification in 11th place overall out of 13 athletes. The heat was won by Spain’s Alba Borrero Gerard in 23.27.

There was also a solid showing from Alessandro Gasperoni, who competed in the second men’s heat. The Sammarinese athlete stopped the clock at 21.99 seconds, a season’s best, finishing 15th overall in qualification. In his heat, victory went to Spain’s Calbano Osinaga, ahead of Algeria’s Ahmani and Turkey’s Uyar, with Italy’s Filippo Tortu finishing fourth.

Encouraging signs also came from equestrian sport. Nicole Conti and Jappeloup completed the first round of the show jumping final with four penalty points, incurred after a mistake at the water jump in the closing stretch of the course. The performance secured the San Marino pair 22nd place and qualification for Round 2, scheduled for the evening at the Horse Club Terra Jonica.
