‘From tourist to farmer’: San Marino chefs go head to head in Piazza Sant’Agata

Four chefs, surprise local ingredients and two hours to create an original dish: a live cooking challenge kicks off a night celebrating San Marino's food and wine.

Four chefs, a surprise selection of Sammarinese products, and just two hours to create an original dish. This is the challenge at the heart of “Dal Turista al Contadino” (“From Tourist to Farmer”), an evening dedicated to the Republic’s food production and restaurant scene, set for Friday, 4 September in Piazza Sant’Agata, San Marino.

The initiative is the result of a collaboration between the Secretariat of State for Territory and Environment, the restaurant sector of USOT, and the Consorzio Terra di San Marino, aiming to bring together the agricultural world, the restaurant industry, and the promotion of the local area.

The evening will kick off at 6 p.m. with “San Marino nel piatto” (“San Marino on the Plate”), a live culinary showdown. Competing for the top spot will be Luis Donati of Brace da Donati, Saverio Guida of La Terrazza, Davide Bruno of InPerfetto, and Raffaele Cilli of Cesare.

The chefs will each receive a surprise selection of local products and will have two hours to turn them into an original recipe. The dishes will then be judged by a panel of technical and journalistic judges, whose members will be revealed during the evening itself. The competition, held in collaboration with San Marino Catering, can also be followed live on USOT’s social media channels.

Starting at 8 p.m., the event will continue at the table with a four-course tasting dinner, prepared using local ingredients and paired with Sammarinese wines. “A gastronomic journey designed to highlight the quality of local produce, the work of producers, and the professionalism of local restaurateurs,” reads the press release.

‘Dal Turista al Contadino’ brings producers, restaurateurs, residents and visitors together around the same table,” said Matteo Ciacci, Secretary of State for Territory and Environment. “We want to turn the quality of our local produce into an experience that tells the story of San Marino, while also offering concrete support to those who work and invest in our land. On 4 September, Piazza Sant’Agata will become the place where this entire supply chain can meet, showcase itself, and be discovered.”

Participation in the dinner costs 35 euros for those who book and pay by Thursday, 3 September. From 4 September onwards, the price will rise to 45 euros. The cost includes water and wine pairing. Seats are limited.
