A new opportunity has opened up for those wishing to attend the meeting with the Holy Father in Piazza della Libertà during his pastoral visit to San Marino on Saturday, August 22. The Secretariat of State for Foreign Affairs has announced the release of 50 additional passes, intended for citizens who were unable to obtain one during earlier stages of allocation.
According to the official statement, “an additional 50 passes are now available for attending the meeting with His Holiness in Piazza della Libertà, on the occasion of the Holy Father’s Pastoral Visit to the Republic of San Marino, scheduled for Saturday, 22 August 2026.”
Applications can be submitted starting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5, through the Gov.sm portal, using the IOL – Istanze Online platform, under the “Events and Public Gatherings” section.
The statement clarifies that “citizens who were unable to obtain a pass during the previous allocation phases, whether online or through the Castle Boards (Giunte di Castello), will be able to submit a request” via the online platform. Each registered user may request one pass for themselves and up to three companions.
For those unable to gain access to Piazza della Libertà, there will still be the chance to see the Pope pass by along the planned route. The Secretariat notes that “along the rest of the Holy Father’s route, from the Torraccia airstrip to San Marino’s historic centre, access will be free and no reservation will be required, allowing both residents and visitors to greet the Pontiff along the way.”
The statement closes by highlighting the spirit in which the country is preparing for the August 22 event: “The Republic of San Marino is preparing to welcome the Holy Father in a climate of deep involvement and heartfelt unity. The Institutions trust in everyone’s cooperation so that this historic occasion may unfold in the best possible way, representing a moment of genuine encounter and great significance for the entire Sammarinese community.”
