San Marino has extended until October 31 its measures to counter rising fuel costs, even as prices at the pump in Italy climb sharply once again. The decision is set out in the decree-law of September 24, which confirms the emergency interventions already adopted on the Titano.
The temporary 10-cent-per-litre cut to the special tax on petrol and diesel therefore remains in force, alongside support through the SMaC Card, which provides a 20-cent-per-litre rebate.
The extension comes as prices across the border have accelerated once again, partly due to the halving of the excise duty cut on diesel. On Italy’s ordinary road network, diesel has reached an average of €2.36 per litre, while petrol hovers around €2.16. Prices are even higher on motorways, where diesel reaches €2.44 and petrol around €2.25 per litre.
Since Monday, Eni has also introduced a price cap of €2.19 for diesel and €1.99 for petrol, a measure that could be extended through the end of the year. Although the price increases have also affected San Marino, the price gap with Italy remains significant, further widened by the relief measures confirmed through the end of October.
