San Marino-EU deal: RETE slams government, «three years wasted, enough with the triumphalism»

RETE welcomes the Association Agreement but accuses the government of wasting three years without preparing the country for the changes ahead.

RETE has welcomed the signing of the Association Agreement between San Marino and the European Union, but has pointed the finger at the government over accumulated delays. According to the movement, the country is still not sufficiently prepared to face the changes linked to the agreement.

RETE recalls that it had already argued, back in 2013 during the referendum on EU membership, for the need for a specific agreement that would allow the Republic to move closer to Europe while preserving its own characteristics.

«It would, however, be a mistake to mistake the signing for a finish line», the movement warns, criticizing the absence of clear planning for the implementation of the Agreement.

«In the three years since the negotiation was concluded, the government should have prepared us for the changes that lie ahead. That has not happened», RETE argues.

The concern centers above all on the reforms and measures that have yet to be defined. The movement is therefore calling for action to be accelerated, warning against celebrations that risk overshadowing the issues still unresolved.

«We cannot allow the delays already accumulated to be compounded by the triumphalism of those who think that signing alone is enough to declare the goal achieved. The real work starts now, and there is not a minute to lose».
