Roberto Sergio will leave Rai on 30 September, but is expected to remain director general of San Marino Rtv. The news was reported by Dagospia, which picked up an article by Carmelo Caruso published in Il Foglio on the future of Rai’s current director general.
According to the report, Sergio will retire from Italy’s public broadcasting service at the end of September, thus closing his professional experience at Rai. The fate of his role at San Marino Rtv, however, is different: he currently serves there as interim director general.
Questioned by Il Foglio, Sergio reportedly confirmed his intention to continue leading the San Marino broadcaster, explaining that he had been «appointed by Rtv’s board, whose mandate is not expiring». The end of his relationship with Rai, therefore, according to the account carried by Dagospia, would not automatically bring about the end of his position in San Marino.
Sergio’s departure simultaneously opens a new chapter at the top of Rai. Dagospia reports that there is no shortage of internal opposition to his continued presence at San Marino Rtv, while the role of Rai director general would return to the discretion of chief executive Giampaolo Rossi. As for the Titano, however, barring any new developments, Sergio is said to intend to remain in his role there.
