Poste San Marino‘s philatelic summer continues, with three new issues set to be released starting Friday, 28 August 2026. Following the philatelic and numismatic issue dedicated to Pope Leo XIV’s pastoral visit, expected on Titano on 22 August, the programme continues with new proposals dedicated to UNESCO World Heritage Sites and the world of comics and contemporary illustration.
On the UNESCO front, the series—which also celebrates the Republic’s diplomatic relations—continues for the second consecutive year, this time turning its attention to Japan and Norway, with two souvenir sheets each comprising four stamps with a face value of 1.35 euros.
The first is dedicated to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial, the Genbaku Dome, the only structure left standing in the area struck by the atomic bomb on 6 August 1945, which has since become a universal symbol of peace and hope for a world free of nuclear weapons. The issue also marks the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 65th anniversary of official relations between San Marino and Japan.
The second issue turns its attention to Norway, marking the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. It features the Geirangerfjord and Nærøyfjord, UNESCO World Heritage fjords considered among the most spectacular natural landscapes in the world, with sheer rock walls and waterfalls.
There is also room for the world of comics with a third issue, worth 2.25 euros, dedicated to Tokidoki and Libertas, the official mascot of the Republic of San Marino’s Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka. The choice of date is no coincidence: the stamp will be issued on the very opening day of San Marino Comics, strengthening the bond between philately and contemporary illustration.
Created by artist Simone Legno, co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of Tokidoki, Libertas is full of references to San Marino’s identity: from the Three Towers, also reflected in her eyes, to the white-and-blue feathers of the coat of arms, and the green hair evoking nature and Mount Titano. The fan, meanwhile, pays tribute to Japan, the country that hosted Expo Osaka 2025.
A symbol of the Republic’s resilience and independence, Libertas now also makes her way onto a stamp, ready to travel the world carrying with her the history, values and identity of San Marino.
All three issues will have a print run of 15,000 copies and will be available from 28 August through Poste San Marino and at the Philatelic and Numismatic Shop at Piazzetta Garibaldi 5, in San Marino City.
