Pope Leo XIV: «End the violence against Palestinians in the West Bank»

At the Angelus in Castel Gandolfo, the Pontiff renewed his call for an end to violence against Palestinian civilians and urged progress toward a two-state solution.

A new appeal from Pope Leo XIV for peace in the Middle East. During the Angelus recited at Castel Gandolfo, the Pontiff called for an end to the violence against the Palestinian population and urged the international community to work concretely toward a political solution to the conflict.

Leo XIV renewed his appeal “that the repeated violence against the Palestinian civilian population in the West Bank may cease,” also urging “the international community, as a matter of urgency, to ensure that the two-state solution advances toward a just and lasting peace.” His words were met with a long round of applause from the faithful present.

The Pope then turned his attention to the Mediterranean Games in Taranto, which will involve countries from Africa, Asia and Europe. “I hope that this sporting event will be a prophecy of peace and brotherhood among the peoples of this region and of the whole world,” he said.

In his address, Leo XIV also returned to the theme of human dignity, describing as “unbearable” the inequalities, discrimination and barriers “that trample on the dignity of too many sons and daughters of God.”
